I was still in my teens when I started working as a freelancer for a local newspaper in my town. By the time I was 22, I was a full time staff photographer for a series of papers in southern New Hampshire. It was like a dream come true but I always yearned for bigger things. My heroes were (and still are) the pioneering photojournalists like Tim Page, Alfred Eisenstaedt, Eugene Smith, Dorthea Lang, Mary Ellen Mark and of course, Henri Cartier-Bresson and many others. Knowing when to click the shutter is something that is never quite mastered, but after a fashion, you do sort of get the knack of it. With street photography, it’s a combination of luck, good timing and a dash of discretion.
